Short-term Help

FISH (Friends in Service to Humanity) had opened a new branch in the New York area. They provide short-term help to those in need with information and referral, shopping, running errands, appointments, non-perishable food items, clothing, or small household items. Anyone needing help can call their answering service between 9:00 am and 9:00 pm at 347-730-5658 and leave a message. Someone will call back as soon as possible.

Camp Funding---New Jersey

The NJ Children’s System of Care (CSOC) will be providing summer camp services including financial support towards camp tuition and one-to-one aide services to eligible children, youth, and adults under 21 years of age. In addition, CSOC is introducing Alternative Recreational Sessions which provides youth an opportunity to engage in a recreational activity with peers in the community on a per session basis rather than a full day in camp. This shorter time frame is good for those who may benefit from a brief period rather than a longer traditional camp day. Completed applications must be postmarked by Performcare no later than June 30, 2023. You can also apply online at www.performcarenj.org.

Autism Calming Kit

Riding in the car can be overstimulating and uncomfortable for people with autism, leaving them stressed and scared. Chrysler is introducing its “Calm Cabin” package, which is designed to transform the company’s Pacifica minivan into a “sensory-supported mobile experience,” . The kit, developed in partnership with the Autism Society of America, includes a seat-back organizer with room for a tablet and more, a meditative light, a sound therapy machine, a seat belt sleeve with a velvet feel, a travel pillow and a weighted sensory blanket.
