Kashrus Alert—It has been brought to our attention that national brand products that are sold all over may not have the same Kashrus status in different locations.

If you are traveling for medical reasons, conferences, or pleasure, make sure to check for the kashrus hechsher on familiar products before making a purchase.

In a recent case, a family vacationing in Orlando noticed that the bottle of Dr. Pepper soda did not have the familiar OU certification on the bottle cap. When calling the Dr. Pepper hotline, they were told that if there is no OU, it is not Kosher. Checking with the OU, they were advised that they should consider it non-kosher.

Apparently, the kosher syrup is shipped to local independent bottlers who may also do runs of other, non-kosher products on the same machinery, with no mashgiach to kosherize the equipment between runs. This renders the product questionable for the kosher consumer. CONSUMER BEWARE!
