Autism Tracking Devices—The Department of Justice has agreed to use existing funds for a voluntary program to pay for tracking devices for children with autism who are in danger of wandering. The agreement was made in response to new legislation entitled “Avonte’s Law”. The devices will be made available to families upon request. Details will follow as they become available.

Emergency Procedures Course-- HASC will present a free course for parents and professionals which includes:

  • Standard First Aid
  • CPR Training
  • Use of automated external defibrillator
  • Severe allergic reactions
  • Asthma attacks
  • Burns
  • Bleeding and wound care
  • Seizures
  • And more…

This course will take place at 7:30 pm on February 24th at the Sisu V’simchu Hall at 4127 18th Avenue, Brooklyn, New York. Contact Esther at 718-686-5901 to reserve a place.

Accessible Van Contest---NMEDA will be giving away three wheelchair accessible vans in honor of National Mobility Awareness Month (May). Disabled individuals can enter the contest as a “local hero” by posting their picture or short video with a write-up about themselves of 400 words or less on the contest’s website, www.mobilityawarenessmonth.com, beginning February 25, 2014. People can vote online for their “local hero” daily from March 11th until May 16th. See their website for additional information.

AAC update—After hearing testimony about the necessity of adding AAC devices (computers for speech) into the health basket, the High Court in Jerusalem has decided to reconvene in March 5, 2014 at 8:20 am. Interested parties are requested come to the hearing to show your support.

Holon PDD Soccer Team—Children with PDD from the Holon area are invited to join a special soccer team which meets Wednesdays at 5:30 pm in the sports hall of the Revivim school, 21 Hashomer Street. The 'team' enables the children to learn the basic rules of the game, while also learning the rules of regular social circles which are not always self understood for these children – such as waiting in line, knowing to lose etc. .
