Stargardt Disease

 

                                                              

 

        

Also known as fundus flavimaculatus.  An inherited form of macular degeneration that usually begins before age 20 and is associated with mutations in the ABCR gene.  Yellowish deposits appear under the macula and retinal pigment epithelium, causing deterioration of visual acuity and impaired color perception.  There is currently no treatment, but limiting exposure to light may slow progression of the disease.
