Pelizaeus-Merzbacher Disease

 

                                                              

 

A type of leukosystrophy.  It is a genetic disease affecting the myelin (white matter) of the brain.  This causes delays and regression in mental and physical development.  It is caused by an inherited defect on the mother’s x-chromasome, and affects mainly boys.  There is currently no cure, and treatments are limited.
