Nieman-Pick Disease

A group of three inherited metabolic disorders causing an accumulation of sphingomyelin, a product of fat metabolism, and cholesterol buildup.  It can cause infection or central nervous system disorders which can be  fatal in children.  It affects mostly Jews of Ashkenazi descent.
