Neuralgia

A nervous system disorder which causes severe pain along an affected nerve.  There are a few types of neuralgia, depending on the cause.  Trigeminal neuralgia is usually caused by compression of the trigeminal nerve root.  It is also a possible complication of Multiple Sclerosis. Post-herpetic-neuralgia is caused by inflammation in the nerve as a result of the virus that causes chicken pox and herpes zoster which can lay dormant in the body even for years.  Glossopharyngeal neuralgia is similar in symptoms to trigeminal, but in the pharynx nerve root.  See trigeminal neuralgia and post herpetic neuralgia
