Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

 

                                                              

 

    

A chronic (present for at least 12 weeks) condition defined by abdominal discomfort or pain that is associated with changes in bowel frequency or form.  It can be triggered by diet, stress, and other factors.  Symptoms include abdominal pain, changes in bowl patterns such as diarrhea or constipation, straining, or passing mucus with bowl movements.  Treatment includes dietary changes, medication, and stress reduction.
