Also referred to as stomach flu.  Acute gastrointestinal infection caused by many types of bacteria, viruses, and protoza.  Symptoms include Fever, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea.  Bacterial causes can also include high fever and bloody diarrhea.  In severe cases, [patients can develop dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, kidney failure, and neurological deficits.  Treatment includes hydration and electrolyte replacement. In severe cases, intravenous hydration may be necessary.  In some cases, antibiotics are needed.
