I Will

By Temima Shain

When I can't take one moment more,

one minute, hour, day,

when all I want is all to end,

and pain to go away,

When I can no more stand it

and there's nothing more to hope,

How can You just demand it

When You know that I can't cope...

I close my eyes against the waves

that crash against my soul,

And sink into the tiny place

inside me that's still whole...

You put me here; You want me here.

And so I must go on.

I will it so, and so I will,

though there's no will to want.

I'll take one step today

and then I'll take one step tomorrow,

I'll shut my eyes and move my feet

through waves of blackest sorrow

I'll keep on walking walking

though I know I can't walk more,

just stepping stepping through the waves

until I reach the shore.
