IEP Goals For My Son

by: Chaya Tavin

IEP Fall 5764

Dear Staff,

In preparation for our upcoming IEP meeting, I wanted to give you some advance notice of some of the goals that my husband and I have for Binyomin Dovid to accomplish during the next year. By way of apology, if we are totally off-base, I have to note that before Binyomin Dovid was born we knew the following:

1) People with special needs are people, with feelings like any one else and deserve to be treated with the respect and understanding due to any Tzelem Elokim.

2) Kids with Down syndrome are cute, have some degree of mental handicap, and have a high incidence of health problems

Needless to say, though the above is true, we have gained quite an education in the two years since his birth, and are grateful to the caring and professional staff with whom we have had the pleasure to work until now. I hope we will continue to have a productive relationship, and will see the fruits of your efforts bimhera b’yameinu

Below is a list of goals we have set for the upcoming year, along with the skills we feel are required to achieve those goals. We have tried to develop goals that aim to increase his level of functioning in OT, PT, Speech, Cognitive Development, and Social skills

B’hatzlacha

Sincerely.

Chaya Tavin
